Many universities are adopting the payment of bitcoin for tuition all over the world.

Bitcoin has been used to buy a home, and countries like Venezuela and Vietnam are beginning to embrace digital currency.

Among the institution that adopts the cryptocurrency for Tuition are:

  • The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Business School (IEBS) has become the first digital business school offering online-only courses in the world to accept Bitcoin as payment for tuition fees.
Covering its online master's and postgraduate courses, the school will now be able to offer a fixed rate to its wide array of international students without having to worry about international exchange rates.

Oscar Fuente, CEO of IEBS said
Cryptocurrencies are a fundamental part of the school's strategy to change the means of payment and offer alternatives to currency exchange.

IEBS's decision reflects the fact that, despite the dramatic fluctuations in value that have come to characterize Bitcoin, the (in)famous cryptocurrency is having a profound effect on the business school world.
  • Varna University of Management (VUM) in Bulgaria will enable students applying for an undergraduate program to receive the equivalent of a 1,000 Euro scholarship in bitcoin, according to Bitcoin.com, ten students will receive the bitcoin scholarships in 2018, which are awarded based on the students' background and past achievements. VUM also said it plans to enable students to pay for their tuition and accommodation bills in bitcoin.
The school said
Varna University of Management will now be the only accredited university to offer scholarships in bitcoins, we believe that we will have a chance to attract some of the brightest students to Varna.
  • The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Switzerland also announced the decision to accept bitcoin payments on 3 October 2017, saying it is an indication of "its ability to disseminate knowledge on cutting-edge technologies such as blockchain, as well as its desire to gain experience in the practical aspects of this novel area." The university offers courses focused on financing, economics, music, and more, meaning it was really only a matter of time before it invited bitcoin inside its walls.
Lucerne doesn't handle the bitcoin transactions, instead of entrusting all bitcoin payments firm Bitcoin Suisse AG. The company will use a banking system similar to an e-banking portal, enabling the school to accept the digital currency without having to maintain possession of it. Bitcoin payments are converted into Swiss francs once a week, or once a day if more than 10,000 Swiss francs are acquired.

  • ESMT Business School in Berlin became the first German university to accept cryptocurrency as payment, calling it "the most well-developed blockchain application." The school's chief financial officer Georg Garlichs said that integrating bitcoin as a routine method of payment is a logical consequence of digitalization.
  • The University of Nicosia in Cyprus announced in 2013 that it was the first school in the world to adopt bitcoin.

  • King's College was the first U.S college to accept Bitcoin payment in 2014 through the payment processing platform Coin.co. "Allowing bitcoin to be used to pay for a King's education decreases our costs while simultaneously allowing our students to be a part of this exciting new technology," Said Gregory Thornbury, King's president.
The rapid increase in interest in Bitcoin also means that business schools the world over are scrambling to keep their students abreast of the latest cryptocurrency developments.
