Facebook Pause Connection of Chatbots to Pages Temporarily

Facebook has asked all app developers to pause launching new experiences until new platforms and policy updates are introduced.

Facebook Chatbot

In light of the recent Cambridge Analytica news concerning data privacy, Facebook has asked app developers (e.g Chatfuel) to temporarily pause the ability for their apps to connect to business pages:

"We are currently pausing app review, which means there will be no new bots/experiences added to the platform while we review our policies and make necessary adjustments."

As a result, Chatfuel will be TEMPORARILY limiting its page-connecting functionality.

How will this change affect you?

Chatfuel bots that are currently connected to business pages will be affected.

However, during this period, it will not be possible to reconnect a bot to a page IF YOU DECIDE TO DISCONNECT IT.

Although Facebook has not announced how long this embargo will last, we are told it is only temporary and should not last more than a couple weeks said The Chatfuel Team in an email.

Ime Archibong, VP Platform Partnerships announced some updates to the Facebook platform, which also impacts Messenger.
These critical steps will give people more control of their data, and put stronger protections in place to prevent misuse.
As Ime mentioned in his blog post, in the upcoming days and beyond, we will:
  • Conduct an in-depth review of our platform: We will investigate all apps that had access to large amounts of information before we changed our platform in 2014 to reduce data access, and we are conducting a full audit of any app with suspicious activity
  • Inform people if an app is removed for data misuse
  • Encourage people to manage the apps they use
  • Require heightened terms for business-to-business applications
  • Reward people who find vulnerabilities
