Investigators Arrested 9 Suspects in Bitcoin and Gold Scam Scheme





French and Belgium authorities arrested 9 suspects who allegedly defrauded victims of $6.6 million by selling bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies according to a press release from Europol.

The criminal group operating in Belgium and France and controlled by the Israeli branch promised victims big profit on investments in bitcoin, gold and diamonds what appears to have been a Ponzi scheme. They offered their financial services on online platforms through false companies.

The fraud displays the tell-tale signs of a fraudulent scheme. The organizers promised returns from 5 to 35 per cent of them pretended to manage users' wallets and invited them to invest more money. some of the victims were indeed paid interest to increase their confidence in the platform.

According to Eurojust, European investigation orders (EIO) were issued to the authorities of Bulgaria, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Spain, the Czech Republic and Portugal.
