Malami Orders Arrest of Nigerians Still Using Twitter After FG Suspended the Operation of the Social Media in the Country




 Attorney General of Federation and Minister of Justice in Nigeria, Abubakar Malami, SAN has directed the Director of Public Prosecution of The Federation (DPPF) to arrest and prosecute any offenders of a federal government ban on Twitter operation in Nigeria.

This action takes place after Nigerians bypass the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria with the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) to get access to Twitter.

Earlier during the weeks, Nigerians reported President Muhammadu Buhari's tweet inciting genocide like the Biafra war in 1967 against the South Eastern region, and Twitter deleted the tweet from President's Twitter handle which brought anger from the Nigeria government side.

However, many notable Nigerians like Oyo State governor Engineer Oluseyi Makinde has condemned the Federal Government action against the social media platform "Twitter" saying the ban would bring hardship on Nigerians and give a bad name to the country to the foreign investors.

"It has become imperative for me to release a statement regarding the suspension of Twitter's operations in Nigeria by the Federal government. As leaders, we should go beyond emotional reactions to issues and think about how our actions will affect the people we lead and our international ratings socially and economically. Governor Seyi Makinde said"

He further in saying:

"Twitter has become the platform for young people and indeed all Nigerians to exercise their fundamental right to express and publish an opinion, They use the platform to complain, argue and give feedback to government and its agencies who in turn, use these to improve policies. This is a fundamental point that should be kept in mind as we debate the necessity of this suspension."

However, in the mix of the dramatic action of the Nigerian government, Twitter has assured Nigerians of restoring access to the social media site in Nigerian soon.
