Opera Browser announced partnership with Solana to integrate SOL ecosystem in early 2022

Opera browser

Opera announced a partnership with Solana Labs to add native support for the popular blockchain, allowing it to run a native Solana wallet along with all the dApps in the ecosystem.

An official blog post on Friday, December 10, has over 380 million monthly active users across its ecosystem, which includes a number of browsers and news-focus applications. Currently, Opera's built-in cryptocurrency wallet already supports the TRON and Ethereum ecosystems.

The Opera team said on Twitter that the integration was expected to be ready by Q1 2022. By then, users should be able to enjoy all the benefits of the blockchain in desktop and mobile browsers without any restrictions.

Opera joins forces with @Solana! The integration will enable Opera Android users to enjoy seamless access to Solana DApps alongside low-fees and fast transactions within the ecosystem. You'll be able to access it through Opera in Q1 2022. Learn more: - Opera (@opera) December 10, 2021

The publicly-traded Norwegian company has added "30-second" cryptocurrency wallet top-ups in several regions and is set to work with Solana Labs on integrating the Solana network onto its wallet.

The moves come as Solana's decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem keeps on growing and as Ethereum transaction fees hit a new all-time high. according to CryptoCompare's latest Asset Report, decentralized finance activity on the Solana blockchain continued to grow last month, but at a slower pace when compared to October. IT grew 15.8% from October to $14.4 billion, compared to its 35% growth in October and 177% in September.

The report details that during November fees spent on the Ethereum network kept on rising and reached another monthly all-time high of $1.82 billion, a figure that represents a 34.6% growth from October.

CryptoGlobe reported, over 77% of Solana's $SOL tokens are being staked on the cryptocurrency's network and earning their holders yield, so much so that staked value on the network surpassed $84 billion, according to data from Staking Rewards.

Opera Vs Brave

The battle for the web3 between Opera and Brave browsers is increasing Unlike Web 1, where users consume content provided by a website, and Web 2, where users interact through a centralized platform, in WEb 3, there is no centralized entity controlling interactions, but rather the communication is done through technologies such as blockchain was data flows in a network with no single point of failure, according to Cryptopotato.

Some examples of Web 3 focused developments is Sapien, UjoMusic, Storj, Filecoin, Hive, and Minds.

Despite some controversies, Brave has been the undisputed king of the crypto-browsers for a while. The browser is even powered by its own blockchain, and its BAT token serves as the basis for an entire ecosystem that aims to rethink the business of advertising and content promotion, rewarding users for viewing ads, and allowing the community to reward quality content creators.

However, Opera has taken a more pragmatic approach. They have not developed a cryptocurrency, nor do they want to create a new experience, but their browser has adapted to Web3 like no other. In addition to Solana, Opera has a native cryptocurrency wallet, support for Dapps, and other features geared towards blockchain adoption.
