There is a lot of token scams being created every day to steal funds from innocent people. In November 2021, Check Point Research (CPR) alerted crypto wallet users of a massive search engine phishing campaign that resulted in at least half a million dollars being taken in a matter of days.

This research investigates how hackers built tokens to scam consumers. Here are tips on how to identify these scams. For example:
  • Some of the tokens don't allow the buyer to resell.
  • Some tokens contain a 99% buy fee which will steal all your money at the buying phase.
  • Some allow the owner to create more coins in his wallet and sell them.
  • Some others are not malicious but got security vulnerabilities in the contract source code and lose their funds to hackers.

The latest scam token (out of 97,553 total) was flagged by DeFi validation metrics due to known or potential scams/hacks. Many scams token listed here have names similar to legitimate tokens, please verify the contract address before buying.
